Nachtrag: 3 Monate Holzmann BS275TOP Bandsäge

At the beginning of the year we had bought a new band saw for cutting material. Due to a tempting offer, the saw turned out to be one size bigger than actually needed (or the space was too small).

intermediate conclusion

3 months and several meters of steel pipe and solid aluminum later here is a small interim conclusion.

positive

  • Cutting performance and quality – the cuts are square, cut edges clean
  • Smooth running
  • Fences for 90 and 60 degrees adjustable via adjusting screw
  • KSS pump has sufficient volume capacity and flushes away chips relatively well
  • Pressure indicator for saw blade tensioner is very helpful

negative

  • No level indicator on the coolant tank – if the level is too low, the impeller pump starts beating foam.
  • With angular cuts, coolant drips from the saw blade housing onto the floor
  • The space of the saw blade housing is unused – there would be room for tools and saw blades.
  • Speeds 45 and 90 m/min – infinitely variable would sometimes be helpful

All in all, we are more than satisfied with the saw, especially for the reasonable price. In terms of durability it still has to prove itself, but due to the solid construction we do not expect any major problems.

KSS flushing nozzle

We have already made one small change:

We do not try to clean the machine properly every time it is used, so that no rust spots appear. For this purpose, we have packed a 7.2 mm compressed air quick coupling in front of the stopcock of the KSS supply line, on which a spiral hose with a flushing nozzle is suspended.

Apparently, however, the cross-section of the spiral hose is too small and the impeller pump cannot build up sufficient pressure. Therefore relatively little volume arrives at the nozzle. Here we have to readjust a little bit (or install a bigger pump).

Ideas for further improvements

foreword: The saw is running great. With a few small changes, however, the comfort and utility of the machine can be increased even further. Many of the points are rather extensions…

  • solenoid valve for automatic set-back
Actually the set-back starts via a ball valve. An electric solenoid valve with master would be more practical.
  • non-return valve for KSS pump
It is not necessary, the pump supplies the two outlets very quickly with cooling lubricant and so the soup does not collect in the hoses.
  • VA cover plates
Unconditionally! Fabian has already attached an angle plate to the adjustable blade guide in order to guide outgoing KSS back into the tub. At several other places this would be necessary as well. hinges for the rear saw blade cover instead of tommy screws instead of screws. it just looks stupid and is replaced either by a gas tension spring (does it really exist) or a pneumatic cylinder. That would be step 1 towards (semi-) automation.
  • exchange handwheel belt tensioner
is originally made of plastic. Why not dare to build your own in aluminium??
  • Line laser
for the positioning of workpieces. Unfortunately, we currently have no space for a roller conveyor with stop. We are replacing the vice handwheel with a version with folding crank (space-saving) instead of the simple toggle screws. To be honest, we still work with the original blade from the scope of delivery, but we have several other blades for different materials. A quick change would be helpful
  • storage space in the base
the base is closed all around, but would make a good laper space for tools and saw blades. Some derivatives of this machine have a door here, our model does not. /li>Protection for hydraulic cylinder
The cylinder is exposed and has a recess at the top where coolant and dirt accumulates. A simple rubber bellows would be helpful here.
  • Enhance collant filter
Actually the filter consists only of a painted perforated plate. Just fine metal particles land in the KSS tank. Although there is a sedimentation stage at the bottom, the pump still sees some dirt. Idea: install a removable filter basket made of stainless steel mesh, magnet for fine particles in the tank and paper filter at the outlet.
