Little things of the week – CW 12

It’s time again for another “little things of the week”. This time with three small parts. “Little things of the week” is a collection of all those things, thoughts, ideas and projects to small for a whole article of their own.

Rebuilding the shop power distribution

We started of with a single 16 A CEE socket. Soon we will be having 7 sockets separated in 5 circruits. From now on we will be able to use all machines in parallel without having to swap cables around the shop… well, at least to the maximum 34 A delivered by the main input to the shop.

Coolant

Quick note on the coolant we had mixed some weeks ago. Even after all the impurity and oil leaking into the coolant it remained stable and non-stinky. Nevertheless, we are still planning a semi-central coolant supply and treatment unit in the shop to make the coolant complety maintenance free.

Working with cooling in the home shop was quite a game changer for us. Using cutting oil generated a lot of smoke and fumes in the shop which I guess is not very healthy.

Previously we had feared the maintenance required but so far it looks manageable.

T-Slot covers

Clearing chips from T-slots is annoying. By coincidence I found these nice covers which come already pre-drilled to drain coolant and fit perfectly in the chamfer of the table.
